It’s Still Winter…
And it looks like the groundhog was RIGHT! but Spring is just around the corner and the days are getting longer. Have you seen all the robins around lately? The students continue to be busy in the Technology Center.
Do you think March will come in like a lion or a lamb? Let’s wait and see!
Kindergarten & First Grade
The Kindergarten was very creative in February doing dot-to-dot pictures using Kidpix which helps strengthen hand and eye coordination. We have begun using a very good website which is educational and fun. Give it a try at home: www.abcya.com.
First Grade is getting very good at identifying computer parts and knowing what they do. They are also using ABCYA.com to sharpen their skills in sight skills and number recognition using the various exercises available in the app. We are also using Coolmath4kids.com (not Coomath.com) as a great tool for team building.
Grades Two through Five
Second and Third Grade started working on their Internet navigation skills. The students learned about the different menus like the Address Bar, the Search Bar, and how to type in a URL or web address. We visited sites like the Saint Peter School site, ABCYA.com and Seussville.com
Fourth Grade is using Google Docs and learning how to format, change fonts, colors, indenting, bold/italic/underline. We are putting these skills to good use and the students typed their first letter for your signature. Don’t worry, there will be a few more coming your way.
Fifth Grade performed an on-line scavenger hunt and created a Google Doc inserting the pictures while labeling each one strengthening their formatting skills. We’ve also explored Coolmath4kids.com and the students competed against each other in teams using the different math exercises.
Grades Six, Seven and Eight
Grade Six continues learning about Google Slides. This month everyone is creating a presentation about The History of Computers. Their research included things like who created the first computer, interesting facts, like the first mouse was made of wood, and many more items. They will be doing presentations using the information they gathered.
Grade Seven created their own electronic Bingo Cards using “tables” and actually played Bingo with them. They all had fun and learned some new skills at the same time. They will be working on a New Jersey State information document researching things like the capital, who the governor is, state bird, flower, insect, etc.
Grade Eight is finished with their “Landmarks of the World” calendar. In groups of three, the students chose a country, found 4 landmarks each and using the Calendar Wizard, put together a calendar showing a picture of the landmark as well as interesting facts about it. They are on display in the Technology Center. Next project is "Facts about the Olympics"!
