Welcome 2nd Grade Students and Families!

My name is Miss Megan Hayes and I am pleased to be your new 2nd Grade teacher  I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know each one of you.

During this time of school closures, we all need to do our best to work together to continue education.

Parents, please check your email daily and contact me with any questions or concerns.

Students must be able to log into the Seesaw app- if you have not done so already, see my email with instructions.  It can be done on any device-  computer, cell phone, iPad, Kindle… I find iPads are the best device for the ease of taking pictures…

Many of you have already gotten on and posted – Yay! I am loving it so far! It’s so nice to hear from the kiddos and see their pictures 🙂  Let me know if you need help. I will be posting activities and assignments that will need to be completed each day.

**  I will continue emailing daily assignments. As of now, all work completed should be checked by a parent and they must be held accountable to complete all assignments in a timely manner. If your child is struggling to complete the daily work, please let me know and we can discuss some modifications if needed.  It is my goal to use Seesaw as a way for me to check student work. Once I have the entire class logged in, I can assign a “Home Learning Code” which will allow students to complete assignments and make posts that only I can see.  I will notify parents when assignments must be submitted.

**Your child will also need to log into Xtra Math

(https://xtramath.org/#/home/index) and complete the math fact practice each day. Try to incorporate this into their schedule.  I will be getting daily reports to check their progress and make sure it is being completed. One session of Xtra Math practice usually takes less than 10 minutes. Memorizing math facts and keeping up on this during school closures if very important.  I will email everyone individually with the directions on how to log in at home. This too can be completed on any device.

I encourage your children to READ, READ, READ!!

**Another app I highly recommend is Epic!  https://www.getepic.com/

It is a digital library filled with awesome books. The kids use this daily at school and are very familiar with it. With all libraries being closed, this is a great option.  The company has opened this up to be used for free at home. I have emailed directions on how to log into your child’s account so they can continue using this app. Each student should read at least 20 minutes a day.

**Prodigy is another great math app that the kids love that can be used as a reward when work is complete. Please email me if you need me to send you your child’s username and password.

**Other math concepts to work on: telling time, counting money, and measurement.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Let’s work together to make this a positive experience for all of us!! 🙂

Stay Well!

*Remember to always check your child’s homework and supply bag each school night. They are to have 3 sharpened pencils, an eraser, glue stick, dry erase marker (preferably fine point), scissors, and crayons each day.

Memorizing addition and subtraction math facts are EXTREMELY important this year. If your child is fluent with their math facts, math will be much easier and enjoyable for them. Please consider using the Xtra Math website at home to practice. The class uses it each each day for 5 minutes of daily math drills. Each student was sent home a paper with how to register. Please ask me if you need this information again. http://xtramath.org
