Kindergarten & First Grade
The Kindergarten continues with their creativity while learning how to control the mouse and placing objects on the screen using KidPix. We’ve also explored the Internet at the WWW.ABCYA.COM website. It’s a great site and designed specifically for grades K-5. Why not give it a try.
First Grade - In honor of Earth Day, everyone created some wonderful pictures of Mother Earth and other things important to the environment. We also tested our Internet skills and learned how to navigate to the WWW.ABCYA.Com website.
Grades Two through Five
Grades Two and Three started looking into Internet safety. You’re never too young to learn about safety. We viewed some age appropriate educational movies on Kids.Yahoo.com. You can also view these movies at home by going to this site and clicking on the Safety link. Grade three also reviewed the proper steps for turning a computer on and off using the Smart Board.
Grade Four – did some excellent reporting on “What they did over Easter Vacation”. The exercise allowed them to use their Microsoft Word skills and express themselves with words and pictures.
Grade 5 has just about completed their Breads of the World project. Most everyone has presented their findings to their classmates using Microsoft PowerPoint. We’ve even included animation and sounds to make them more interesting.
Grades Six, Seven & Eight
Grade Six - using their newly acquired PowerPoint skills, each student is preparing a presentation on the many different ancient civilizations of the world. This project is part of Mrs. McDonnell’s Social Studies Curriculum.
Grade Seven learned about Microsoft Word functions including WordArt, AutoShapes, the Text Box tool and inserting pictures. They created a document in a very specific format showing information about the state of New Jersey.
Grade 8 is getting close to completing phase 1 of the M&M Project. It incorporates the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and the Internet. Each student will present their findings in class. Phase 2 will use Microsoft Excel to show a spreadsheet of the different colors and determine the distribution in a bag of M&M’s. Of course, they will be able to eat them at lunch.
